Chief Operating Engineer Career Duties

  • Direct coordinates operation of major generating plant of electric power system

Chief Substation Operator Career Duties

  • Supervise and coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating and maintaining electrical mechanical equipment at electrical substation used to control flow of current through transmission lines
  • Direct switching operations to drop station voltage load under low frequency conditions in order to define loss of generator sources and to resynchronize transmission lines after power separation during emergencies
  • Inspect equipment, like control meter boards, relays, circuit breakers and transformer lines to make sure operating efficiency
  • Record instrument readings at designated intervals and completes daily monthly reports to indicate data, like current loads, voltage loads, outages, and inspections

Coal equipment Operator Career Duties

  • Operate locomotives and bulldozers and controls conveyor systems to transport pile coal for use in boilers of generating plant
  • Operate locomotive to haul coal car over unloading bins
  • Push lever of car shaker or car turner to empty coal from car into bins
  • Start and controls conveyor that transfers coal to from bins, bunkers, and storage pile
  • Operate bulldozers and front-end loaders to shape compact coal storage pile to minimize possibility of spontaneous combustion
  • Lubricate adjusts conveyor systems, bulldozers, and other coal-moving equipment
  • May loosen frozen coal in gondolas, using steam hose or blowtorch
  • May collect coal samples for laboratory tests
  • May tend crusher that reduces size of coal
  • May operate tugboat to move position barges for unloading
  • May read meters record weight of coal in logbook.

Coal Sampler Career Duties

  • Collect coal samples from hopper cars or coal bunkers preparatory to testing
  • Insert specified size of pipe in car or bunker, using sledgehammer, to facilitate gathering coal sample
  • Dump coal from pipe into container records sample source
  • Carry sample to testing laboratory.

Coal transport and mill Operator Career Duties

  • Tend equipment that pulverizes coal conveys it to storage bins or boiler feed hoppers
